Looking for peace?
As we look around our country and around the world we see so much unrest. In fact there has been very little time when there was no conflict or war going on in the world. British forces have continued to be engaged in fighting around the world.
It seems that we have an inherent ability to not be at peace.
When we look at ourselves we strive to have peace. Whether it is with our family or friends, our neighbours or work colleagues, in business or personal we are constantly looking for peace.
From a Christian and Biblical perspective, inner peace starts with finding peace with God.
So to help us understand how we can get peace, let’s look at a number of verses/statements found in the Bible.
The word peace is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible. The first one we will look at is:
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
PSALM 4:8
The peace that we get from God is a different peace from that which we can find in the world. The peace from the world only seems to satisfy for a period, but God’s peace lasts for ever.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
JOHN 14:27
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
2 THESSALONIANS 3:16
So do you want peace that will last and not fail? Then you only need to get the peace of God in your hearts and let it rule there.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
COLOSSIANS 3:16
But getting right with God (see ‘HOW CAN I BE SAVED’) and trusting Him for everything, we can find peace.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
ROMANS 5:1
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS 4:6,7
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
ISAIAH 26:3
This world offers peace, but only God offers perfect lasting peace. Do you have peace with God?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
JOHN 3:16
