Breaking of Bread
Sunday Morning 11:00 – 12:15
At Wainscott Gospel Hall the members gather to remember the Lord Jesus in accordance with the instruction given by the Lord Jesus to His disciples in an upper room in Jerusalem after they had celebrated the annual Jewish feast of Passover. Luke chapter 22, verses 19 and 20 tell us what Jesus did: He took a loaf of bread, gave thanks to God for it and broke it open and passed it to His disciples and said: “This is my body which is given for you.” They took part of the bread and ate it and Jesus instructed them to do this in remembrance of Him. He also took a cup of wine saying: “This cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you.” The cup was passed to each disciple for them to drink from the cup. The bread and the wine symbolise the death and shedding of the blood of the Lord Jesus on the cross. The time is spent in worship and remembrance in singing hymns, engaging in prayer with readings from the Bible. Led by the Holy Spirit, the men participate in audible worship and the women remain silent, having their heads covered in accordance with the teaching of 1 Corinthians chapter 11, but they worship and remember in silence. All are welcome to attend this meeting, but only those in fellowship may participate verbally in the meeting and partake of the bread and wine and contribute to the monetary offering. All may join in the singing of hymns.
